Sinner

-Sin is defined as an act that is regarded by theologians as a transgression of God`s will.

Recently President Obama chose 54-year-old pastor of the Atlanta Passion City Church, Louie Giglio to give the benediction for his second inauguration. However, after some media about the pastor`s 20 year old sermons condemning homosexuality surfaced, the pastor passed on the offer for fear that his past comments about homosexuality being a sin would overshadow the message of the inauguration.

I`ve always found it honorable when victors show mercy on those they have defeated. Giglio has since joined the masses and accepted homosexuality as a respectable alternative lifestyle. It seems in this case that the gay community should show some good sportsmanship and forgive late comers to the gay parade and support Giglio`s benediction (whatever that means).

I don`t think it`s fair to judge a pastor from the South on (almost) anything he said 20 years ago concerning gays. 20 years ago it was the job of southern pastors to be homophobic, after all homosexuality IS a sin. That is a fact. That doesn`t make it wrong, no more than NOT dribbling a ball after each step makes double dribbling wrong, but it`s against the rules of basketball. So is being gay according to the Old Testament of the Christian bible.

The bible lists a lot of sins including but certainly not limited to; homosexuality, eating pork, working on Sunday listening to Nickleback, ( love this one) vain babblings etc…These are some of the rules in the bible and they call them sins. Most of these sins are all punishable by death. You are supposed to kill the people who do these things. What`s another sin? Murder. Now you may be thinking that that sounds a wee bit contradictory and you would not be alone. Some of these rules are nuttier than elephant shit but those are the rules, and rules are rules. They’re literary edged in stone.

So of course when the Rainbow Revolution started to gain some attention 20 or so years ago, pastors and religious people all over the country were quick to cite where in the bible it states that it is a sin, that has not changed but the times have changed. The public punishment for intolerance towards gays is enforced with such diligence that comedians don`t even come near the subject anymore. Watch Eddie Murphy`s Raw from around 20 years ago and listen to his jokes about gays. Not a dry eye in the house and no one, not one person thought twice about how offensive it was. That was the point!!!

So if you can excuse Eddie Murphy, surly you can find it in your hearts to forgive this pastor and show your support for his giving of the benediction (seriously, wtf does that mean? I don`t know but I like saying it...benediction. It`s kind of a gay word if you think about it, does that make me gay? Not that there`s anything wrong with that.) at Barry`s inauguration. It`s the big thing to do. (I said big thing.)
